Report Card

I was rummaging through old files and books at home (i.e. in Calcutta) and found an old report card from Class II.

I was eight years old. “Disturbingly talkative” got me into a lot of trouble with my parents.

Conduct: Poor, Singing: Fair. :D

I have never seen this combination of good marks+ poor conduct+ disturbing talkativeness. All the good marks kids in my school were very good conduct+non talkative and all the poor conduct kids were bad marks+talkative.

Too bad you weren't in a position to belt out "Sweet Dreams" or "West End Girls" back then...no one would have dared given you a "Fair" in Singing had you done so!

@Takai: "Singing: Fair" is perhaps generous. =)

@Spin: The report card doesn't paint a very good picture of me -- I probably come across as a cocky undisciplined kid. In reality I think I was just talkative.

@Nirmalya: "Some of them want to abuse you" could have been written specifically with some my teachers in mind. :|

At first I read "however" as "handsome" and wondered for a whole minute why the hell anyone would write that in a report card. Then I realised the picture could be magnified if I clicked on it.

Exactly, the fact that they found your singing satisfactory, but your conduct poor is...concerning. :D

Eta ami dekhei comment korbo bhebechhilam, I feel so bad for poor kid-you. For me, on the other hand, the junior school aunties kept writing that I was shy and withdrawn! What nonsense. Do I look like someone who could ever have been shy, I ask you?
