"Humans just need rice, don’t they? Basically," says Reiko, the protagonist's best friend in Butter – a novel by Asako Yuzuki.
I don't know about all humans, but I certainly do, and many of my Asian friends are the same.
In The Solitary Gourmet (2024), the protagonist, who is Japanese, goes to a French restaurant in Paris. He orders onion soup and beef bourguignon, which comes with bread and roasted vegetables. "This is traditional French food," he says, as he eats with relish. "Amazing."
But moments later:
Goro-san, I know exactly how you feel.
I also like this t-shirt from the same movie: "All of a sudden, I feel hungry."
I know exactly how he feels too.
