The Girl Who Refuses to Dance

As I have averred before, my life is a comic book. This being the case, it is hardly surprising that I should fall in love with comic-book girls. At the age of twelve, I briefly fell in love with Princess Orinjade from Asterix and the Magic Carpet. As I tend to do with things I like very much (e.g. art nouveau posters, the Ferrari 250 GTO), I drew a picture of Orinjade. I was twelve and love-struck, so pray do not judge me too harshly.

And now I am in love with another cartoon girl. I found her on Aditi’s blog. She’s in the picture below – the girl on the bottom row, second from left. Go ahead, enlarge it and see.

Note, please, that she is not “the girl who refuses to go to parties”, nor is she “the girl who doesn’t get asked to dance”. She goes to parties, but refuses to dance. She is like the girl in Marx and Engels, and a sort of antithesis of Hermine in Steppenwolf. Look carefully at the picture: you can just see it, can’t you? All the other girls are trying so hard to fit in, but secretly, all they want is to be this girl, who doesn’t fit in at all, and doesn’t seem to care.

Orinjade was a mere fling, a passing fancy. This is the real thing.

You should so totally not fall for her. She "rises with red hair and eats men like air"..true story :)

BUT, Sroyon. I;m sure if Orinjade were to deign to dance, this girl would eat her heart out. I do like her hair, though.
Also, Steppenwolf was pretty hot himself.

@Rick: I gave all my reasons in the post.

@Aditi: Ha! You're jealous 'coz it's not you. :D

@atindriyo: acknowledgments :)

@Tommy: It's a classic!

@Shrabasti: ...and here we go again.

@scheherazade: No, Anasua, how can a girl who deigns to dance like any ordinary girl ever hope to compete with the Girl Who Refuses to Dance? Besides, we must not forget that Orinjade, poor girl, is an Uderzo solo-creation. An Orinjade drawn by Uderzo and speaking lines by Goscinny - close call.

too much modesty; that picture is so wonderfully drawn for a twelve year old.

having been the girl who refuses to dance, i'd like to say that personally speaking, my rejection of dancing had too much to do with fear of failure and too less to do with thinking independently. i prefer the girls who dance confidently and dance terribly. much sexier.

also, re orinjade again.. i cannot help but notice the loving attention you have paid to shading her decolletage ;) but she was very hot.

@Anonymous: It doesn't matter. I am concerned with the girl in the drawing, not the girl who inspired it (no offence). And I am free to decide the reasons why the girl in the drawing refuses to dance. :)
